Policies and Fee Information
Ticket Refund Policies
Due to the nature of the performing arts, programs and artists are subject to change. If an artist cancels an appearance, UMS will make every effort to substitute with a comparable artist. Refunds will only be offered if a substitute cannot be found, or in the event of a date change. Fees are not refundable. UMS will not cancel performances or refund tickets because of inclement weather.
UMS also sells tickets for University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance productions and the Ann Arbor Summer Festival.
Individual Ticket Fees
For single tickets, fees of $3.00-$6.00 per ticket apply to all internet and phone orders:
- $3 for tickets $29 & less
- $5 for tickets $30-$59
- $6 for tickets $60+
There are no fees for single tickets purchased at the League Ticket Office or at the venue immediately before the performance. Fees are never refundable, and may also be charged for ticket exchanges.
Season Ticket Package Fees
There is a $10 fee for all season ticket package orders. Season ticketholders enjoy access to the best seats and the best prices for all performances. Benefits also include free parking and installment billing. Learn more about UMS season ticket packages
Tickets can be purchased online, via phone at 734-764-2538, or in-person at the Michigan League Ticket Office. Visit our Contact Page for more information.
Need to Exchange Tickets?
Tickets are not refundable, but UMS offers three options for you to make the most of the value of your ticket if you can no longer attend a performance:
Option 1: Ticket Donation
UMS tickets may be converted into an in-kind contribution to UMS. You will receive a receipt via mail for tax purposes; please consult your tax advisor. Ticket donations count towards UMS giving levels. Voided tickets may be turned in for donation up until the published performance start time. Unused tickets that are returned after the performance begins are not eligible for donation purposes.
Option 2: Ticket Exchange
UMS tickets may be exchanged into another performance in the same season. Original tickets must be voided and returned to the Ticket Office at least one hour prior to the performance. If you exchange into a lower price, the balance will be held on your UMS credit until the final performance of the current season. If you exchange into a higher price, you’ll need to pay the balance.
Option 3: UMS Credit
Unable to attend your performance, but unsure what to exchange into? UMS can hold the remaining value of your voided tickets — after applicable fees — as a credit on your UMS account. Your credit may be applied toward the purchase of any other UMS tickets until the final performance of the current season. Credit cannot be applied to future seasons.
As with exchanges, tickets voided for credit must be returned to the ticket office at least one hour prior to the performance. Credit can be redeemed over the phone or in person at the League ticket office, but cannot currently be redeemed online.
All UMS credit will expire at the end of the current season. If you would like to convert your credit to an in-kind donation before it expires, please call the ticket office to inform us of your intent.
Once you have selected your preferred option, your original tickets need to be returned to the box office so they may be voided. You may fax a photocopy of your torn tickets to 734-647-1171, bring them in person to the League Ticket Office, or email a photo or scan of the torn tickets to email@example.com. Voided tickets must be received prior to the deadline listed under your preferred exchange option.
More than 48 hours before the performance, season ticketholders pay no fee when exchanging; otherwise, a $6 fee per ticket will be charged.
Within 48 hours of the performance, all orders will be charged a $10 per ticket exchange fee, regardless of subscription status. Exchanged tickets must be received at least one hour before the published performance start time. Tickets received less than one hour before the performance will be returned as a ticket donation to UMS.
I lost my tickets. Can I get new ones?
Please call the Ticket Office at 734-764-2538 to have duplicate tickets sent via email or held at Will Call. Duplicate tickets cannot be mailed.
Do you offer ticket discounts?
If I arrive late, can I still get in?
Late seating is not guaranteed and varies per performance. Please leave ample time for parking and arrival (please note: Most U-M parking structures are cash-only). UMS works with the artists to determine a late seating policy that will be the least disruptive to the artists and other ticket buyers.
Can I bring my baby?
While UMS offers specially priced Kids Tickets for children in grades 3 – 12, children under the age of 3 will not be admitted to regular, full-length UMS performances. All children, regardless of age, must be able to sit quietly in their own seats throughout the performance. Children unable to do so, along with the adult(s) accompanying them, may be asked by an usher to leave the auditorium.
Please use discretion in choosing to bring a child to a UMS performance. Remember, everyone must have a ticket regardless of age. Age recommendations for performances are posted on the artist performance pages.
Are your venues accessible for persons with disabilities?
UMS is committed to making all facets of our organization accessible to the widest possible audience. This commitment includes making our websites, performance venues, and event spaces accessible. Learn more about accessibility at UMS
What happens if a performance is sold out?
For sold-out performances, a wait list will be started when the box office opens at the venue for that performance date. Wait lists are in-person only and are not a guarantee of entrance.
Is my credit card safe?
UMS works with the University of Michigan Treasurer’s Office to ensure the highest industry standards for credit card security. We use the Tessitura ticketing system, which was developed by the Metropolitan Opera in the late 1990s and is now used by over 600 arts organizations in the US, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia. UMS does not store credit card information.
