Frequently Asked Questions

We want to reassure you that we will continue to put the health, safety, and comfort of our patrons first. We also recognize that you may have some questions about next season, and have put together a list of our most frequently asked questions below. If you have questions that don’t appear on this list, please feel free to call our Ticket Office at 734.764.2538. Our staff is working remotely and available from 1-5 pm Monday-Friday.

Where is the series brochure that usually comes with my renewal packet?
Due to the extraordinary circumstances of this spring, we are not printing a series brochure. However, it still exists online in a pdf format.
What options do I have for paying across multiple installments?

We are working on some new options to make this easier and to allow up to four installments for your subscription order:

If you are a U-M employee and wish to use payroll deduction: Please place your order by May 29, and you’ll be billed over four pay periods, once monthly in June, July, August, and September. Donations will be deducted in monthly installments beginning in July 2020. NOTE: Payroll deduction requests must be mailed or emailed to umstix@umich.edu. Payroll Deduction requests will not be accepted online. Due to the current coronavirus restrictions, we are unable to accept payroll deduction requests by fax or in-person.

If you are NOT a U-M employee and wish to take advantage of installment billing: We are able to process installment billing by phone only at this time. If you wish to mail in your order form, please indicate a number where you can be reached during the day, and a member of our team will call you for your credit card number. During the stay-at-home period when our staff is working remotely, we strongly discourage you from mailing in your credit card number.

We are also actively working on making installment billing available online and will update our website if and when that functionality exists. There are some issues with online installment billing that are out of UMS’s control, so we can’t guarantee that this option will exist — but we’re working on it!

What will happen if performances are canceled next season?
We hope that won’t happen, but if it does, we will continue to provide flexible options for subscribers, including refunds, donations, and exchanges for future events. For all performances that take place as planned, standard ticket policies will remain in effect.
How will UMS decide if/when it is safe to present concerts again?
We will always make the health and safety of our audiences and artists our top priority. UMS will continue to follow University, State of Michigan, and CDC guidelines when determining when it’s safe to bring people together for concerts again.
What will happen to my seats if capacity is reduced?
It’s possible that we could be in a situation where we’re only allowed to sell a smaller percentage of the total venue capacity. If that happens, we will do our best to keep subscribers as close as possible to their original seats while maintaining the appropriate social distancing. We’re all figuring this out together!
Would UMS consider live streaming performances next season?
We are actively exploring potential options and alternatives for next season, including technology and/or streaming services that would make our presentations available at home. There are a lot of logistical considerations, however, and it will be some time before we can announce any details.
Is UMS going to be okay?
We want to reassure you that UMS has been around for over 140 years, and thanks to decades of support by generous supporters and ticket buyers, we are optimistic about the future. We survived the Spanish flu epidemic, we survived the Depression, we survived the Great Recession — and we fully expect to be around for a long time to come. We will always put the health and safety of our audiences and artists first, but we will continue to serve the community through artistic and educational events.

Installment billing.

We are working on some new options to make this easier and to allow up to four installments for your subscription order:

For U-M Employees
If you are a U-M employee and wish to use payroll deduction: Please place your order by May 29, and you’ll be billed over four pay periods, once monthly in June, July, August, and September. Donations will be deducted in monthly installments beginning in July 2020. NOTE: Payroll deduction requests must be mailed or emailed to umstix@umich.edu. Payroll Deduction requests will not be accepted online. Due to the current coronavirus restrictions, we are unable to accept payroll deduction requests by fax or in-person.

For Everyone Else
If you are NOT a U-M employee and wish to take advantage of installment billing: We are able to process installment billing by phone only at this time. If you wish to mail in your order form, please indicate a number where you can be reached during the day, and a member of our team will call you for your credit card number. During the stay-at-home period when our staff is working remotely, we strongly discourage you from mailing in your credit card number.

Free parking.

Order at least 8 events by Tuesday, June 30 and receive free parking for central campus performances in the Power Center structure (Fletcher Street), a close walk to most performance venues. Be sure to check the box on the order form (or leave a note in online orders) if you wish to take advantage of this offer, as parking passes are not automatically included. Note that U-M parking structures, including the Fletcher Street structure, may not be open for off-campus performances.

And in addition to these tangible perks, subscribers also enjoy:

Personal Fulfillment.

Let’s be honest — it’s hard to find those moments of personal escape, and sometimes we have to schedule them into our lives. UMS takes you to a place where the imagination is thriving, and a UMS series allows you to invest in yourself while supporting the quality of life in our community.

Building Relationships.

When you attend with family or friends, you create memories with people who are important to you, whether you join up for dinner before or meet up at the performance. And even if you attend alone, you can build lasting friendships with others who love the arts.

Discovery.

We hope you’ll take a chance and discover something new this year — an artist you’ve never heard of, an art form you’ve never experienced, a hands-on experience through our highly-lauded education programs…With UMS, you can count on unexpected moments that will stay with you for a lifetime.
