20th Anniversary
Sphinx Virtuosi
Performance
In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Sphinx Organization, this program offers a collection of concerti through the ages, including both beloved masterpieces and new works by American composer Michael Abels and Jimmy López from Peru, both of which were commissioned by Sphinx.
The group, which was founded at the University of Michigan by alumnus and former dean Aaron Dworkin, is composed of 18 alumni of the Sphinx Competition, which supports racial diversity in classical music. They tour each fall, performing annually at Carnegie Hall and at other leading venues across the country.
