School Day Performance for Grades 9-12
300 Paintings
Created and performed by Sam Kissajukian
Sometimes a breakdown coincides with a breakthrough. In 2021, Australian comedian Sam Kissajukian quit stand-up, rented an abandoned cake factory, and became a painter. Over the course of what was later diagnosed as a six-month manic episode, he created 300 large-scale paintings, unknowingly documenting his mental health experiences through the process.
After receiving treatment and finding stability, Kissajukian transformed this period of his life into 300 Paintings, a powerful performance that blends storytelling, humor, and visual art. Through this work, he shares his journey in an honest and thoughtful way, helping audiences better understand the relationship between creativity and mental health.
This School Day Performance offers a meaningful and engaging theatrical experience for students, creating an opportunity to reflect on how art can help us better understand ourselves, others, and heal in the process.
This production contains strong language and discussions of mental disorders including bipolar, insomnia, and psychosis.
