Work in Progress: “Dreamers” Workshop

This special preview event will focus on the creative process behind Dreamers, a new oratorio written for the Philharmonia Orchestra by composer Jimmy López and librettist Nilo Cruz that focuses on the experience of young undocumented immigrants in the United States. NPR Arts Desk Reporter Neda Ulaby will interview López, maestro Esa-Pekka Salonen, soprano Ana María Martínez, and local immigration experts about the creation of the work and its implications in our current political climate. The Philharmonia will offer excerpts from the work in advance of its world premiere in California later this week.

The world premiere of Jimmy López’s work Dreamers will be live webcast from California on Sunday, March 17 at 6:00 pm ET, and available at ums.org/live. Please note that this stream will only be available at 6:00 pm on Sunday and will not be archived for on-demand listening.
