Arthur Miller Theatre
Us/Them
BRONKS and Richard Jordan Productions
Belgium’s Bronks theater company presents a compelling work about the hostage drama in a school in Beslan in 2004, when more than 1,200 people, mainly children and their mothers or grandmothers, were taken hostage.
This performance is part of No Safety Net.
When the crisis ended several days later, more than 300 people had died, including 186 children. Us/Them is not an account of these tragic events, but about the individual way that children cope with extreme situations, contrasting their views with those of adults.
Performed in English.
Please note: The artists have requested no late seating for this performance.
60 minutes, no intermission.
Artist Q&A. Wednesday, January 24. In conjunction with opening night No Safety Net performances, join us for post-performance artist Q&As to get a glimpse into the lives and minds of the artists who bring their creativity to the stage.
Saturday Night Community Dialogues. Saturday, January 27. After the Saturday night performance of Us/Them, join us for a community dialogue hosted by Jim Leija (UMS Director of Education & Community Engagement) and Martine Kei Green-Rogers (Dramaturg and Professor of Theatre, SUNY New Paltz). Jim and Martine will be joined by several community leaders to engage audience members in discussion around the themes of each performance. The floor will be open to reflect on, discuss, analyze, and respond to the performance you’ve just experience. If you’re attending the performance on a different date, you are welcome to join the post-performance discussion on Saturday evening (just bring your ticket stub).
