Explore the world of the mariachi art song and learn about the history, traditions, and interpretations of artists in traditional Mexican and Latin American music.
Join us for this 90-minute workshop that complements UMS’s presentation of Aida Cuevas with Mariachi Aztlán on Friday, November 4. Familiarize yourself with and deepen your understanding of Mariachi music. Facilitated by professional, community-based practicing artists/educators, UMS 101 workshops offer background and contextual learning, live demonstrations, and participatory activities in a fun, casual environment.
$49 registration includes the 90-minute workshop, plus a ticket to the November 4 performance of Aida Cuevas. (Please note, the performance is on a different day/time/location than the workshop. Sorry, no ticket exchanges or refunds for previously purchased tickets.)

Karina Edivier Lambaren Franquez, hailing from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, is a Master of Ceremonies, Certified Special Events Coordinator, and Choreographer with over 15 years of experience. She leads a number of initiatives to improve the lives of her community.
Rosa Lina Morales, known as “La Guera” on the radio, has worked for the Mexican regional station Z 1310 AM and 107.9 FM for 6 years and is on the air from 1 to 3 pm. From Tlaquepaque Jalisco, Rosa Lina spent 27 years singing live in restaurants and clubs in Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, Manzanillo, and Michigan. She connected with many people while she participated and ranked first in the 2013 TV Azteca show “Quiero Ser Grupero.” Thus, she was also in several important presentations across the Americas and sang on big stages such as the Univision Formula 1 Event in Austin TX, Lo más perron Awards in Chicago, and Concurso Azteca América.
