Swing Dance Night
For one night only, the Ypsi Freighthouse becomes a jumpin’ dance hall!
Join Riverside Swings and Swing Ann Arbor for a night of swing dance at the Freighthouse. Learn the basics from local experts, then dance the night away to the hot horn-riffs and bouncing bass-lines of Ferndale’s Aston Neighborhood Pleasure Club. All are welcome! Come alone, with a partner, or in a group.
6:30 pm – Intro to Swing Dance
Master the basics with this instructional class designed for beginners.
7:30 pm – Social Dance
Dance the night away with live music from the Aston Neighborhood Pleasure Club.
This is a Pay-What-You-Wish event.
The Freighthouse floors are old hardwood, with uneven spots and bumps. Please leave your best dancing shoes at home and come prepared with comfortable shoes you can move in.
Rooted in the New Orleans musical tradition, the ANPC is a collective of musicians performing in the hot jazz style. Though inspired by a bygone era, these modern day raconteurs engage audiences (and dancers!) of all ages with their driving rhythms and energetic style. From hot horn-riffs, bouncing bass-lines, and chunking guitar comping to rattling washboards and raspy vocals a la Tom Waits, this band will put ants in your pants and a need to dance.
