King Sophia is a multidisciplinary storyteller and world-builder. Classically trained with a degree from Frost School of Music – University of Miami, King’s cellistic and compositional skills are their main processors for the world around them. They are especially known for their live arranging and live composing — what others call ‘improvisation.’ Each new creation is grounded in their identities of Black Indigenous Queerness and a desire to preserve, showcase, and build upon non-hegemonic music history. Using these core cultural threads as a foundation for their practices, King Sophia explores art and intention through a holistic lens to concoct sonic experiences that motivate, illuminate, alleviate, and empower.

Detroit native Sophiyah Elizabeth is a multi-sensory artist, sonic meditation practitioner + cultural conduit with a mission to raise awareness for collective liberation and spiritual reverence. Through education, community organization, and music creation, her practice deepens connections with legacy building and overall wellness. With over 10 years of experience, Sophiyah utilizes music (theory), occupational therapy, and somatic practice to form a holistic wellness resource that focuses on Frequency & Vibration while also partnering with practitioners and organizations for collective community care.
Acknowledging the energetic root of how our interactions inform the body, mind and soul, Sophiyah utilizes her music platform for interactive “sonic exhibitions” honoring black histories through story-telling & multi-genre compositions. Through the science of sound, metaphysics, history and challenging oppressive euro-centric norms, her meditation practice serves as a restorative awareness tool for collective/individual autonomy. Active in Detroit and Chicago, Sophiyah leads her 6+ member ensemble S.O.L. Tribe (Seekers of the Light), is a multi-instrumentalist of Sistazz of The Nitty Gritty, a black woman quintet deconstructing societal norms by way of various genres and spontaneous composition; and a member of Autophysiopsychic Millennium, a creative research music collective studying the methodology, philosophical and spiritual works of the late Dr. Yusef abdul-Lateef. In 2019 Sophiyah founded Afro Moone, a Detroit-based holistic resource providing advocacy design and accessible wellness resources, also serving as the parent of ROOTD; an archiving resource dedicated to uplifting wellness of elder through their storytelling. Sophiyah also serves as Program Director for D.Cipher, a non-profit organization focused on amplifying the Michigan music economy, artist development resources, and event curation. Sophiyah’s passion for unification and spiritual technology honors ancestral influence and radical design to convey messages of empowerment.
