Seeds & Fruit
Created by Shanzell Page,
UMS/U-M Flint Artist in Residence

Performance

Mindful Movement with Shanzell, under the direction of movement artist and educator Shanzell Page, announces the premiere of Seeds & Fruit, an evening-length performance rooted in tap dance and Black vernacular movement.

Created as part of Page’s residency with the University Musical Society at the University of Michigan–Flint, Seeds & Fruit explores themes of cultivation, memory, and transformation. The performance builds upon Page’s previous work, Salt in the Soil, and reflects an evolving inquiry into rhythm, environment, and personal narrative. Blending percussive movement, ensemble work, and live performance elements, Seeds & Fruit positions tap dance as a living practice that holds cultural knowledge, community connection, and expressive possibility.

“This work is about what we carry, what we nurture, and what we choose to grow forward,” says Page. “It is both personal and collective, connected to where I come from and where I am going.”
