Earthseed Visionaries — Permaculture Futures

Free
Octavia E. Butler Week Event
Parable Path A2Ypsi
Partner Event
Public Workshop

In celebration of the UMS presentation of Octavia E. Butler’s Parable of the Sower, Booksweet is proud to partner with Northside to explore the book’s themes of self-reliance and embracing change.

Meet with Jean Wilson and Nathan Smead, two middle school educators at STEAM who are in the process of transforming the schoolyard into a self-sustaining edible forest with their students.

Using the concepts of permaculture, a philosophy of working with, rather than against nature, Wilson and Smead began building new visions for the schoolyard eight years ago and have worked steadily to create an outdoor classroom, garden beds, a three sisters garden, rain gardens and permaculture beds.

At this gathering, tour the A2STEAM gardens, learn about permaculture, and discover new ways to bring the next generation into the work of living in harmony with nature. You’ll also have a chance to shop for seed balls and seed bookmarks created by A2 STEAM students who are raising money for fruit trees.

This event is free and open to the public. Your RSVP is helpful to our planning.

All who RSVP for Earthseed Visionaries will get 10% off all gardening books when they shop in-person at Booksweet (1729 Plymouth Road, less than a mile from STEAM @ Northside) on Sunday, March 20, anytime between 10 am-8 pm.
