Open Mic Night at the Freighthouse is back, and we want to hear from you. Singers, poets, rappers, comedians, and more — bring in your newest work, dust off an old favorite, or just come by to support your neighbors and fellow artists. Grab a drink, settle in, and see what Ypsi has to offer!
Hosted by Annie Bacon, a songwriter and writer living in Ann Arbor is a founding co-host of the Community Open Mic at North Star Lounge.
Annie Bacon is a songwriter & writer living in Ann Arbor with her teenage child. By day she works in maternal health advocacy, and by night, she creates. With her OSHEN she merges a literary writing style and folk-rock Americana sound to create rich and emotionally complex music that has been placed in films and critically praised.
She’s been recognized by the Independent Music Awards (Finalist), Great River Song Contest (Runner-Up), Acorn Song Contest (Finalist) the Springfed Arts Prose Contest (1st place), and was a resident at the GoodHart Artist Residency in January 2026 where she completed her next album, and a novella.
She’s also co-written a musical, written a folk opera, and a yet to be published novel. But her real pride and joy these days is as a founding co-host of the Community Open Mic at North Star Lounge.
