Melanie Rick, Kennedy Center Teaching Artist

Educator Workshop - K-12 Programs

Students in the early years are often emerging readers who depend on images to provide visual cues that aid in comprehension. Back by popular demand, arts integration consultant and national board-certified reading specialist Melanie Rick leads participants through an online workshop that focuses on reading illustrations in fiction picture books before, during, and after reading text to help students develop the skills of prediction, inference/drawing conclusions, sequence, and retelling a story.

This workshop is recommended for classroom teachers (pre-K–5), English learners, special education, and reading and arts specialists. The workshop includes both asynchronous and synchronous components.

Once registration is complete, you will receive additional instructions regarding how to access the asynchronous component of the workshop.
