Political Cartoons, Paintings, and Photographs: Reading Art in Secondary ELA and History Classrooms
Melanie Rick, Kennedy Center Teaching

Educator Workshop - K-12 Programs

It can be difficult for students to relate to events of the past or comprehend historical curricula because the themes, people, places, or topics feel abstract or removed from their own lives. Join Melanie Rick, arts integration consultant and certified reading specialist in this online workshop that guides teachers in learning how to read works of art, illustrations, and photographs as texts to support students’ personal connection to events or themes past and present.

This workshop is recommended for middle and high school ELA and History teachers, English learners, special education, and arts specialists. The workshop includes both asynchronous and synchronous components.

Once registration is complete, you will receive additional instructions regarding how to access the asynchronous component of the workshop.
