“[Charles] Lloyd is the rare jazz artist whose every appearance qualifies as an event…” (New York Times)

Lloyd has recently put together a new band, The Marvels, featuring Bill Frisell on guitar and pedal steel guitar master Greg Leisz alongside his longtime collaborators Eric Harland (drums) and Reuben Rogers (bass). First elected “Jazz Artist of the Year” by Downbeat over 50 years ago and recently named an NEA Jazz Master, Lloyd is admired for concerts and recordings of pristine beauty and elegance, full of intensely felt emotion and passion that touches deep inside the heart. He returns to UMS with modern folk icon Lucinda Williams, who fronts the band with selections from their new Blue Note release, Vanished Gardens, a collection of songs that range from traditional hymns and anti-war folk protests to re-envisioned originals that appeared on Lloyd’s earlier recordings.

Please Note: State Street will be closed through early February between Granger and Stimson. If you typically use this route to attend UMS events, please allow extra time for the detour, or consider taking a different exit.
