50 years ago today I was one of 117 lucky Interlochen Arts Camp orchestra members (French horn) and dancers who performed on the White House Lawn for President Kennedy and an audience of young people. Our hosts were the children of Kennedy Cabinet members. Our conductor was Interlochen founder and president, Dr. Joseph E. Maddy, and the program represented works by composers from many nations.

One of our most exciting events during the 2011-2012 season were the preview performances of Einstein on the Beach at the Power Center in January. Some UMS staff revisited Einstein at Luminato Festival. Learn what happens when you see Einstein twice.

Mary Roeder, part of our Education & Community Engagement team, has been accepted (one of fourteen!) to the second round of the Leadership Development Institute. Follow her adventures as her cohort sets out to research community engagement in each of their 14 organizations.

On June 1st, UMS staff celebrated Ken Fischer’s 25th anniversary at the helm of UMS. We made a scrapbook, too.
