In this collaboration between the Pina Bausch Foundation (Germany), École des Sables (Senegal) and Sadler’s Wells (UK), Bausch’s pioneering Rite of Spring is danced by a newly assembled company of dancers from more than a dozen African countries. Rite is paired with a new work created, performed, and inspired by the lives of two remarkable women: Germaine Acogny and Malou Airuado.

Combining Tchaikovsky’s musical masterpiece with contemporary arrangements, Ballet Preljocaj reinvents the timeless tale of love, betrayal, seduction, and remorse into a contemporary ecological tragedy.

Step Afrika! blends percussive dance styles practiced by historically African American fraternities and sororities, traditional West and Southern African dances, and an array of contemporary dance and art forms.
