3 Ways to Celebrate the Holidays with UMS
From the Christmas decor fanatic to the ultimate shopping skeptic, UMS offers something for everyone this holiday season! Discover three different ways to celebrate with the performing arts this December…
1. Bring the Whole Family…
(Recommended for ages 8+)
Sun Dec 1 at 4 pm
Kick off the most wonderful time of the year with the entire family! Wynton Marsalis and his Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra bring seasonal confections that put the heart and soul into the holidays, featuring smooth-as-silk baritone Denzal Sinclaire and teen phenom Alexis Morrast, a recent first-place winner of Showtime at the Apollo.
2. Start a Tradition…
(Recommended for ages 12+)
Sat-Sun Dec 7-8
UMS’s beloved annual presentation of Handel’s oratorio returns, with Hill Auditorium decked out in full festive flair! Scott Hanoian leads the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra and UMS Choral Union, joined by star debuts including soprano Jeanine De Bique and bass-baritone Philippe Sly.
3. Leave it to the Grown-Ups…
(For ages 16+; contains provocative adult themes)
Sat-Sun Dec 14-15
Theater artist Taylor Mac reframes the songs you love and the holidays you hate, taking aim at Santa’s lap, nativity scenes, consumerism, and more in a dazzling, and at times shocking, take-down of the sentimentality of the holidays. Stay after the show for a souvenir from the “Naughty or Nice” photo station with fabulous members of the company!
