The Regenerate! Orchestra presents grow / thaw, an evening of sonic immersions and soundscapes.

The ensemble’s sixty-five musicians, many from Ypsilanti and the surrounding area, will play music that is part symphony, part jam session, part group meditation. The audience will be invited to cultivate a peaceful internal space, be present with their community, and tune in to the cycles of nature that shape our lives.

The performance will feature local flutists Mike Avitabile and Justine Sedky, playing a double concerto with the orchestra. All the music has been written and arranged for the group’s specific instrumentation by the director, J. Clay Gonzalez.

Clay is an active composer and director in the Ann Arbor area. His work centers place, nature, and community. His latest project, the Regenerate! Orchestra, aims to create a welcoming space for musicians of all types to connect around mindful sound-making. He dreams of seeing classical music, a discipline long-mired in exclusivity, hierarchy, and professionalism, radically democratized.
