BLISS is a Michigan Opera Theatre production that replays three sublime minutes of The Marriage of Figaro with the same cast and the same orchestra, without pause, for 12 hours.
The scene, in which Count Almaviva pleads for, and ultimately wins, the Countess’s forgiveness, features some of the most heavenly music Mozart composed. BLISS creates the feeling of an eternal looped moment of repentance and grace, of free-falling in sublime transcendence.
Sold out in New York and Los Angeles, BLISS appears in Detroit as a community experience for listeners to come as they are and come and go as they please. Re-staged by MOT artistic director Yuval Sharon, BLISS will mark the first live performance performed in the historic Michigan Building Theatre since its conversion to a parking garage.
UMS is proud to co-present BLISS. Pay-what-you-can tickets (suggested price $20) are available through michiganopera.org or 734.237.7464.
BLISS is presented in partnership with Michigan Opera Theatre.
