Ambassadors

If you are passionate about the arts and would like to connect deeply with UMS, Ambassadors may be a great match for you.

More than 60 members of the UMS Ambassadors work to increase awareness of and participation in UMS programs through assisting UMS staff with projects and special events, ushering at UMS school-day performances, hosting unique community events, helping to creating partnerships with various U-M and community groups, and providing support to UMS in countless other ways. UMS Ambassadors are the champions of UMS’s community engagement mission.

Choral Union

Formed in 1879 by a group of local university and townspeople who gathered together for the study of Handel’s Messiah, the UMS Choral Union has performed with many of the world’s distinguished orchestras and conductors.

Participation in the UMS Choral Union is open to students and adults by audition. Learn more about the group’s award-winning history and upcoming auditions.

POST Team

If you love attending performances and have a few hours to help UMS in the Ann Arbor, Saline, or Ypsilanti area, this program is perfect for you. Volunteers earn two tickets in exchange for posting promotional posters in local businesses and neighborhoods.

Student Committee

The UMS Student Committee is an official student organization at the University of Michigan! Students focus on connecting the campus community to the performing arts through UMS performances and experiences. Students have found that the committee is a really satisfying, social way to stay connected to the arts during school. To top it off, you’ll get two free tickets to a UMS show for every four hours you volunteer. You can join at any time!

Ushering

Volunteer ushers play a vital role in the audience experience. Typical tasks include greeting patrons, distributing programs, directing patrons to seats, addressing disturbances and distractions, and assisting patrons with special needs.

Usher orientation sessions are held twice annually (September and early January) for new volunteer ushers. The next new usher orientation will be in January 2017.
