UMS Night School: 100 Years of UMS at Hill Auditorium (7)
Monday, February 18, 2013, 7:00 pm
Ann Arbor District Library
Session 7: Yo-Yo Ma, Classical Crossover, and the Future of Hill
Classical music has been a driving force in the life of Hill Auditorium, but the field of classical music has changed significantly in the past 25 years and continues to evolve as audiences and artists alike change their expectations for live concert performances. This session explores the ways in which classical artists like Yo-Yo Ma have “crossed over” and created broader and more diverse concert audiences; we’ll also explore how new technologies are changing the concert hall itself, and what the future might look like for Hill Auditorium.
What was it like to be in Hill Auditorium in 1913? This season Night School focuses on 100 years of UMS at Hill Auditorium and illuminate the special history behind the great performers and performances that have shaped our community. These 90-minute “classes” combine conversation, interactive exercises, and “lectures” with genre experts to draw you into the themes behind each performance. Professor Mark Clague joins us again as host and resident scholar.
In collaboration with the Ann Arbor District Library and the U-M School of Music, Theatre & Dance.
