Educator Workshop: The Common Core and Next Generation Assessments
Tuesday, February 5, 2013, 4:30 pm
WISD Teaching and Learning Center
Fee: $30
The arts are about ideas. They are cognitive activities that exercise young minds and challenge students to think in different ways. When coupled – or integrated – with complex thinking in other subjects, arts integration opens up new avenues of seeing, understanding, and communicating about the world. The new Common Core Standards and next-generation assessments provide unique opportunities for integrated learning and higher order thinking – components of rich arts-integrated teaching.
Join Kennedy Center consultant Deborah Brzoska in an exploration of interdisciplinary thinking and arts integration. Deb brings her unique perspective as a choreographer, a nationally recognized educator, and the founding principal of an award-winning arts-integrated high school. She served as a school change facilitator for the Small Schools Project of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and currently presents about the power of arts learning nationally and internationally on behalf of The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
