Does performance make sense of life? Like a graphic novel burst into life, 1927 invites you on a theatrical journey of startling originality.
Part Charles Dickens, part Tim Burton, the Bayou is a feared and loathed part of the city, wherein lies the infamous Bayou Mansions: a sprawling, stinking tenement block where curtain-twitchers and peeping-toms live side by side, where children have gone completely feral, and the wolf is always at the door.
When the idealistic Agnes Eaves and her daughter arrive late one night, does it signal hope in this hopeless place, or has the real horror only just begun?
Seamlessly synchronizing original live music, physical performance, a darkly humorous narrative, and striking video animation, Animals and Children is a visually stunning and wickedly twisted tale of intrigue and paranoia from 1927, the London-based performance company that specializes in combining performance and live music with animation and film.
“A jaw droppingly clever and gloriously subversive parable…1927 conjures a world so complete it feels as if you’ve fallen down a rabbit hole.” (The Guardian)

1927 is a London-based performance company that specializes in combining performance and live music with animation and film to create magical filmic theater. At its heart is the desire to explore the relationship between live actor and animation.
Celebrated at home and overseas, the Company was founded in 2005 by Writer, Performer & Director Suzanne Andrade and Animator & Illustrator Paul Barritt. In 2006, Performer & Costume Designer Esme Appleton and Performer, Composer & Musician Lillian Henley joined and in 2007, Producer Jo Crowley began collaborating with the company. All four creative members of 1927 come from different artistic backgrounds, and it is the collaboration between these artists and the complete integration of artistic disciplines, that has paved the way for 1927 to create its unique, innovative and highly original work.
1927 fuses, merges, and mixes creative mediums to create a unique performance style. The company has developed an approach to combining the mediums of film, animation, performance and music to great effect, both technically and conceptually; pushing the forms the company works in to new and exciting places. 1927 has mastered this delicate marriage of taking disparate elements and making them work harmoniously.
These performances mark 1927’s UMS debut.
