America in the mid-1980s. In the midst of the AIDS crisis and a conservative Reagan administration, New Yorkers grapple with life and death, love and sex, heaven and hell.

This class will introduce participants to the classical Indian dance form Bharatanatyam and explore how it remains a living tradition through the work of Ragamala Dance Company.

In Written in Water, Ranee and Aparna Ramaswamy explore the concept of spiritual ascension through the 2nd-century Indian board game Paramapadam (upon which Snakes & Ladders is based) and the 12th century Persian epic The Conference of the Birds.

Join dancers from Ragamala Dance Company for an exploration of the company’s movement style.
